Rising 1st:

Phonics Boost

+ Handwriting

In Phonics Boost, reading and writing IS all fun and games! Campers will be cheering on their teams all week long as they play their way through phonics games that will send them into 1st grade with a huge boost in skills and confidence.

Phonics concepts covered will adjust to the needs of each group and may include short vowels, CVC words, digraphs, and Magic/Silent E. In addition to reviewing phonics concepts and practicing reading and spelling, campers will level up their handwriting with dedicated time each day for instruction in the Handwriting Without Tears program.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many campers are in a group?

Each camp session is limited to one small group of 6 campers.

What is the exact location of the camps?

Camps are held in Jenna's Roswell home learning studio, located off Hightower Rd between Pine Grove Rd and Coleman Rd. The address will be shared with you after you have completed your registration.

Can I sign my child up for more than one week of camp?

Each camp is offered twice with the same content and activities each time. Because spots are so limited, we ask that you only register each child for one week. If there are still spots available after February 7th, you may contact us to inquire about registering for a second week.

Can my child who participated in Word Wizards last summer as a Rising 2nd grader sign up for Word Wizards again?

While Ms. Jenna would love to see your child again this summer, the Word Wizards camp is run very similarly from year to year, and much of the magic that makes this camp so special would be lost or spoiled the second time. Plus, we want to give more kids a chance to experience Word Wizards!

Are these camps appropriate for kids who have dyslexia?

Yes! Our Summer Literacy Camps are designed and taught using a Structured Literacy Approach, which is the best approach to teaching reading for all learners, including those with dyslexia.

For students who have dyslexia or are struggling significantly with reading, we recommend Summer Literacy Camps as a supplement to Orton-Gillingham tutoring. If you are looking for a longer summer camp that provides more intensive reading remediation and support, please contact us for a list of suggestions.

How do I know if this camp will be too advanced or too basic for my child?

Camps are designed to give your child a refresher on phonics concepts from the previous school year, and a sneak peek of what's to come. If you're not sure if a camp will be right for your child, it may be helpful to send the camp description to your child's teacher and ask for their thoughts. You can also contact us and Jenna will be happy to help.

Will campers be assessed at the beginning or end of the camp?

No, there will not be any assessments and we will spend all five days of camp learning and having fun.

Will campers be reading books during camp?

These literacy camps are focused on skill-building. Campers will have opportunities to practice their skills with fun short texts when appropriate, but we will not be reading books.

Will campers spend any time outside?

Most activities will be held indoors. On days when the weather is nice, we may take an activity outside.

What if my child has to miss a day?

Parents are encouraged to register their child only if they are able to attend all five days of camp. We understand that illness and other unforeseen events happen. Unfortunately, we cannot prorate or provide refunds for missed days of camp.

What is the refund policy?

A 50% refund will be issued for cancellations made before May 1, 2025. After May 1, no refunds will be issued unless your camp is cancelled by Log House Literacy.

How does the waitlist work?

If a camp you are interested in is full, you may sign up on the registration page for the waitlist. If a spot becomes available for you within 1 week of your waitlist registration, you will be automatically enrolled. If a spot becomes available after 1 week, you will be contacted by email and will have 24 hours to accept the spot.
